Day-To-Day Advantage Of e-Watch™
Over Legacy CCTV

The e-Watch™ system offers many advantages over legacy CCTV. Three of it’s most important advantages increase the security professional’s productivity during the investigative mode.

  1. Linear vs. random review
  2. VHS tape based archives for legacy CCTV systems must be searched in a linear, non-random manner. e-Watch™ provides the ability to immediately retrieve a desired set of still images or motion video clips, from specific cameras, over a specific time frame and review them in one of two modes:

Time mode - Time mode viewing allows you to review images/video as they would have been seen originally. You can watch the images/video playback in real-time, faster-than-real-time or slower-than-real-time.

Image mode - Image mode viewing allows you to replay images/video and skip time frames containing no motion. You can watch the playback in real-time, faster-than-real-time or slower-than-real-time. Therefore, even if watching images/video replay in real-time, there is no time wasted in reviewing images/video where no motion was detected. This makes the reviewing process much faster.

In situations where reviewing images/video in a linear mode, is too time consuming, e-Watch™ images/video may be reviewed in a non-linear, random manner. Using the shuttle bar, you can immediately skip forward and backward to any point in time of the set of images/video you have retrieved. This allows you to "bracket" or "zero in" on an event.

  3. Site specific vs. network centric
  4. - e-Watch™ is network centric, - surveillance data, current or archive, is available anywhere on the network to any authorized user. Legacy CCTV is - site specific. In a multi-campus scenario there could be several CCTV tape recorders. When an event occurs, someone has to physically travel to the site, retrieve the tape and take it to the investigative team, or the investigative team has to travel to the CCTV recorder. - e-Watch™ -allows the investigative team access to ANY data ANYWHERE on the network.

Additionally, many companies elect not to place photo printers with every CCTV tape recorder. They are expensive and require additional maintenance. With the e-Watch™ system, you can send any image to any printer on the network or to any e-mail account in the world.

  5. Simultaneous event review and event recording
  6. In most legacy CCTV installations, the investigator either removes a tape from the recording unit and places in a playback unit or takes the recording unit out of record mode and places it in playback mode. Obviously, while the tape is being reviewed, it is not recording current events. e-Watch allows you to record and playback any event or sequence of events without impacting other operations regardless of mode selection, time or location.

  7. Increased Situational Awareness
  8. As we said, the first three advantages increase the security professional’s productivity during the investigative mode. A fourth advantage is increased Situational Awareness without being bounded by the physical wiring plant. Many law enforcement officials have lamented the inability to access surveillance cameras from OUTSIDE the building in which an event is occurring. They are forced to enter a building "blind" to the whereabouts and activities of the perpetrators.

This is very dangerous when hostages are being held or weapons could be used against the response team. Wireless monitoring is the answer.   WatchBook™ hand held wireless monitoring stations allow security guards, administrators, policemen, firemen and other response personnel to view full motion video from all cameras on the network and other related data at geographical positions not bounded by physical wiring.  These hand held devices may be used inside or outside of the facility based on the configuration.

  9. Automated Alarm Notification
  10. The fifth advantage is automated alarm notification of events. Decisionwatch™ provides for automated notification of alarm conditions and other events to response personnel, and can be provided using dial up circuits to telephones, cellular phones, and pagers; via e-mail; or via the Internet. Alarms can be based on motion detection or events detected by 3rd party systems integrated into the system via GateWatch™. GateWatch provides connectivity to access control, alarm, fire, environmental control and process control systems.

The e-Watch™ line of products covers a greater -product breadth than our competitors.

e-Watch™ offers more than just a digital video recorder or simple multifunction products. We offer an enterprise class, seamless system with:

  1. Encoders, for legacy CCTV cameras,
  2. IP addressable smart cameras, with option cards which support inbound and outbound triggers, RS232, pan/tilt, audio in/out, AC power, DC power, and PCMCIA hard drives.
  3. Servers,
  4. Storage arrays,
  5. Wired guard stations and,
  6. Wireless guard stations.
  7. Browser-based viewing.
  8. Non-linear digital archives, which are easier to search and retrieve. Our digital system provides for easy printing and e-mailing of images.

Motion detection.

We have found that a school w/ 3100 students and 36 cameras only needs 9-10GB of storage per day. Without motion detection, the required space would have been approximately 46GB.
